Valentine fun!

Today was our first day back in almost a week! It was so bad even my kids kept referring to it as a "break"!

In spite of the snow days we had last week, I decided we would go ahead and finish our Gingerbread studies, and the kids were thrilled with this decision! We decided to reserve Thursday and Friday for our Valentine's fun focus!

Today we read The Gingerbread Baby and completed a fun foldable booklet to retell the story. I was so impressed with their writing skills today!

Beginning: "Matti made the babe." Middle "A lot of pepl ran after him."

 End: "Matti made hous."

The only word I gave them to spell was Matti. For some reason, my class could not remember Matti's name in the story. They kept making up alternative names for him all morning!

Next, we used foam hearts, pipe cleaners, crayons, markers, puffy paint, glitter glue, googley eyes, and sequins to make these Valentine's cards for the children at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The kids were so excited when I told them what we would be doing, and many of them could share stories about times they were at Children's Hospital.

In Math today, we began measuring ourselves next to a Gingerbread Boy, but we were not able to finish! We also all gathered supplies or materials from around the room and created a line of objects that we measured. I was surprised at how detailed my kids were right away with making sure even the tiniest bit of space was accounted for. They loved coming over with their item and figuring out where it should fit in our measurement line.
