Gingerbread City!

Today one of little Whos actually said they felt like we were in Gingerbread City with all of the activities we have been completing! Our focus today was on the story...

The kids absolutely LOVE the twists and rhymes in this story! We sequenced and practiced retelling the story with a partner.
We continued working on our SH Hunk and Chunk by brainstorming a list of words that end with -sh. They have been so engaged with the Hunk and Chunk this week- they love when we say "click it and chunk it!" When they spot a word containing the sh Hunk and Chunk, they "click it" (snap their fingers) and "chunk it" (draw a box around the sh).

We also continued with our -an Word Family studies. Today, we wrote the words beside the picture cards we sorted previously. In order to do this, I select friends to come up and be the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in the words. We then sound out the words and write them on our chart.

As an independent practice of our Word Family, students used Bingo markers, highlighters, and crayons to find the -an word family words in the sentences. Next, they write the sentence below.

This is one of my little sweethearts working during the Daily 5 and Work on Writing. She was using our picture cards to write February vocabulary words.

This little guy was using these elkonin box books to sound out and write the words.
These friends were warming up at our Book Club by writing the CVC words they saw.

For Math today, we finished measuring ourselves with the Gingerbread Boy!

After measuring with the Gingerbread Boy, we used mini-gingerbread stickers to measure friends in our classroom. Randomly selected students were able to lay at the carpet and we used the mini-gingerbread people to measure our friends. They thought this was "THE coolest Math day EVER!"
They are lovin' our Winter Math centers that are in full gear! These are our Link Up! cards. These are differentiated because students can create a number sentence, or sequence numbers.

This group was practicing addition by rolling 2 dice and coloring the sum.

This group was at the same center choice, however they were subtracting the 2 duce they rolled and coloring the difference.

This activity practiced our 3D shapes. Students rolled the die and colored the corresponding shape according to the code.

These tally mark puzzles are from the Kindergarten Smorgasbord's Gingerbread Unit!

These wiki stick ten frame cards were a hit as well! They love wiki's!
