LOOKIE LOOKIE!! --->

I'm so excited!
 If you're my facebook friend......
(wait, sad face, you're not my facebook fwend?! Go NOW! she said in her sternest teacher voice!)

anyways... what was I saying?
Oh, yeah! If you're my Facebook Buddy (ahem!) then you saw a few weeks ago that I received an email from Jenny at Party Pail informing me that she had chosen my blog to earn the "Best Decorations" badge for one of my decorating posts!
 HOW COOL IS THAT?!
 Well......... LOOKIE! LOOKIE!!
 No, not here!
 Over THERE -------------------------------->>>>> !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, THERE!
SEE IT?!

I'm so honored and excited, I can't even tell you!

Thank you, thank you, Party Pail!

Ok... off my giddy horse for a moment...

I seriously had the best ever Spring Break, and we did not "go" anywhere on vacation! I took such pleasure in doing exactly what I wanted to do- soaking up every second I could with my little one and taking him wherever we wanted to go! We had so many fun adventures, I was sad to see Spring Break come to a close.

HOWEVER, I was ready to get back to work today and see the little Who's!

I'm not even kidding, I was SO IMPRESSED with them today!

They were rockstars!

Of course, we had our few meltdowns and times where we were a little sleepy or chatty and we needed to take a little brain break, but today was FUN!

We started our day with Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
We retold the story AND sequenced the story independently.

We also introduced our new Word Family for the week! The kids love getting ACTIVE when we complete whole group sorts. Why? because it's FUN! SELL THE SIZZLE!
I randomly pick sticks and those kiddos get a picture card. The rest of the kids stand up at the carpet. When the student with the picture card reads the picture, the kids clap 1 time if the word belongs in our Word Family, or they jump 1 time if it does not belong. Tomorrow we will practice by using our phonetic spelling and what we know about the -am word family to spell these words.

We also introduced Dab it UP! as a new choice at Work with Words. Of course they loved it!
**hilarious comment alert**
While I was working with my small group, there were a few kiddos at the table closest to us working with this new choice.
We have went over our procedures on how we treat our Dabbers and how we gently dab and NOT color.
And we've went over them AGAIN.
and AGAIN.
Since the beginning of the year.
Well, I have that ONE sweetie who still SLAMS and SWIPES the dabbers on the page.
EVERY. TIME.
So, one of my more vocal little sweethearts was working alongside him today. After a few minutes I hear her say, "Bro, it's called DAB it up. NOT COLOR it up. DAB and GO, BRO! Just like Mrs. Biggs has said all year!"
I could not help but laugh hysterically chuckle.

So that's our new phrase. DAB AND GO, BRO! Love their minds!

Another reason I love their brains! In the afternoon we became a little... sluggish. We needed a pick-me-up. So we reviewed rhyming by using Goldie Locks has Chicken Pox. During pre-reading questions, we were talking about the author and illustrator jobs. One of the standard, "why is the illustrator's job important" questions was asked.
We have answered this question 100 times.
I have a few friends say it did not matter if the pictures matched the words.

<insert the ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WE HAVE WENT OVER THIS A THOUSAND TIMES. WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT DOES NOT MATTER IF THE ILLUSTRATIONS MATCH THE WORDS?! rant here>

However... I didn't go there.
I thought about it... but I chose not to.

Instead, we had FUN!

I said simply said, Oh! Okay! Well, let's test this out.

I turned around and wrote "The dog is brown." on the board and drew the picture of the butterfly.
I had one if the kids read the sentence... but they were all already laughing when I finished my picture.

Then I wrote, "The dog likes to fetch." and had one of the kids read the sentence.

<insert uncontrollable laughter and giggles here>

They thought it was hilarious when I began talking about playing fetch with my dog... butterfly!

Could I have gotten frustrated?

OF COURSE.

But I'm so glad I didn't!

How did you keep it positive today?

  1. Hi Kacie, I saw in one of your earlier posts that you read The Three Ninja Pigs. I'd love to send Ninja stickers and bookmarks for your class. I also have bookmarks for Goldi Rocks & The a three Bears which might tie in well with your Goldilocks unit. Please email me at corey@coreyrosenschwartz if you are interested. Thanks!
