How cool is this?!

After getting FANTASTIC news that we are officially "in contract" for our first home, we stopped in my hometown to meet my parents. I thought this little guy had gotten knocked down, but nope!

He just grew there.

I received feedback this week on my Jack and the Beanstalk unit and it made my week!

Leaving thoughtful feedback when you make a TpT purchase or download a freebie means the world to the person who spent hours creating the product.

Just think of it as saying thank you as you do with your waitress, cashier, doctor, babysitter, etc.

It's your way of communicating with the seller.

Sunday is our handsome little man's 2nd birthday!!!!!

I am so excited to celebrate his special day, and even more excited that pretty soon we'll be able to give him a wide open backyard and a whole house to run through!! :D

With my new theme, I had to update my password of the day sign for my classroom door.

Last year I only wrote a new sight word each day on our chart.

This year, I'm thinking I'll write vocabulary terms, math facts, etc!

We absolutely LOVED this unit last year! 

It was perfect for introducing informational text features using the posters as a guide.

The anchor chart that we added to daily was just a fantastic visual aide that my kids referred to throughout the remainder of the year.

This also includes a text structure journal and anchor posters.

This journal was so helpful when using academic language and reminding ourselves by using this as a go-to resource when working with informational text!

These text features posters were also a wonderful tool to use when introducing text features. Using them as a display reinforced the concepts we had learned about and were a helpful resource. 

 

This interactive informational text features notebook was so engaging for the kiddos!

In my K class last year, we used the multiple choice version.

This year in my 2nd grade class, we'll definitely use the cut/paste version.

This pack is so versatile!

Classroom community is one of the most vital parts of a classroom.

At the beginning of the year, it is so valuable to spend time establishing a community and getting to know your students.

I spend *almost* as much time building my community as I do establishing routines.

I say almost, because sometimes these two overlap within each other.

Teaching procedures, setting expectations, and establishing rules for the classroom also ties in with taking care of and promoting a positive classroom community.

 

Ellen Javernick's use of what could be construed as a small bending of rules to establish her purpose is so relatable to our kiddos.

Basically when a little boy bends rules and does not follow expectations, people around him pose the question, "What if Everybody Did That?"
